Task
Working in pairs you will research different aspects of the Holocaust from the Nazi rise to the liberation of the Jews. While you research pay close attention to details of each of the particular aspects. Your final project will be a journal of those times. Accuracy will play a large role in your grade.
Process
01. Choose one partner. One of you will be a Nazi and the other will be someone from a persecuted group (Jew, Slav, Romani, etc.).
02. You will both research the same aspects (Life before Hitler, the ghetto, travel to the camps, and liberation. Keep in mind your character. If you are the Nazi you will obviously have different views and experiences than your counterpart. For example, during the Kristalnacht, if you are the persecuted character you might recall how it felt to have your belongings tossed and destroyed. If you are the Nazi character you might discuss what you were thinking when you were destroying other people's belongings.
03. Journal
A. For your journal your character is a 17 year old young adult.
B. Decide on a name for your character. Choose a location for your stories to take place.
C. Your character must have been friends with your partner's character before the Holocaust. Be sure you describe how (did they attend school together, live down the street, etc.).
D. Your characters must interact as some point (does one character transport the other? etc.). You must mention the other character in your journal.
E. You will create a physical journal to turn in which will contain your entries.
F. Before you turn in your projects you will read your partner's journal and write a paper (at least two typed pages) comparing and contrasting your characters experiences with your partner's character's experiences and any thoughts or observations your may have.
